Johns Hopkins and The Center for Talented Youth

The John's Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) searches for 7th and 8th grade students each year who excel in Math, Reading, and Writing. The purpose of the Talent Search is to identify, assess and recognize the academic abilities of highly able students.

  • In early October, the RDMS Guidance Department will email a letter to parents, outlining the CTY process. At RDMS, the CTY program is by parent nomination only.
  • The letter will contain detailed information about the SAT, ACT, SCAT, or STB (college entrance tests), along with the John's Hopkins CTY program.
  • The 2021-2022 letter can be viewed HERE. Please check back in October for an updated letter.
  • Once you nominate your child, you will decide what test to register your child for: SAT, ACT, SCAT, or STB.
  • Students who earn qualifying scores on these college entrance test are then invited to participate in CTY programs.
  • There are 2 fees involved: one for Johns Hopkins CTY, and one to register for the SAT, ACT, SCAT, or STB.
  • Students who wish to apply must fill out the Johns Hopkin's application, which is available in the RDMS Guidance Office or at https://cty.jhu.edu/talent/about.
